Differences Between NuPhone Client Software
& Conference Manager Software

There are 3 main differences when NuPhone is in Conference Manager mode rather than NuPhone mode.

  • There is no video functionality.
  • Audio is sent and received via a standard or mobile telephone rather than through the computer and its sound card.
  • Calls can only be made or received while dialed and logged in via a standard or mobile telephone to the NuPhone exchange.

These differences allow NuPhone to be used in a networked environment that restricts internet access to only allow basic web browsing. Though it is possible to use NuPhone via a telephone or mobile phone only, with the simultaneous use of Conference Manager it is possible to have access to many features that cannot be controlled from a telephone. These include making and receiving calls to/from other NuPhone users, having moderator control functionality in a room, search functionality for users and rooms, sending and receiving text messages, contact list access, etc.

In either scenario the computer must have an internet connection. Conference Manager is smart to, when a user displayed in the contact list is clicked on, an icon is shown of a telephone indicating the user is a Conference Manager user. Even the telephone connection status is shown. When an active telephone connection to the NuPhone exchange is made a yellow telephone indicating the user can receive calls is displayed. If no telephone connection is active a grey telephone icon with a red slash is displayed meaning the user can't currently receive calls. If a call is attempted when a Conference Manager user doesn't have an active telephone connection, the NuPhone exchange instantly sends the caller a text massage explaining why the user was unable to take the call and a text message to the callee as notification of the missed call. It is possible to send and receive an unlimited number of text messages while in Conference Manager mode, with or without a telephone connection to the NuPhone Exchange.
